Pineapple puree - Drink Secrets

Pineapple puree

Frozen Concoctions with Pineapple Puree

Pineapple puree is exactly what it sounds like – pureed pineapple. You can buy it already made or make it yourself. Either way you choose, you can use it as a primary ingredient in many frozen cocktails to add a Caribbean flair to the drink while utilizing the flavor that cannot be duplicated with any other fruit. Grab a bottle of rum or tequila, a blender, ice, and the puree and you are ready to make some wonderful cocktails during the summer or any other time of the year.

Where to Find Pineapple Puree

You need to find the pineapple puree before you can start creating all of the fun. You can usually find the pineapple puree in the frozen food section, right with all of the juices. Make sure you get a puree and not a juice concentrate, though, as you want the thick pulp, not sugary juice. If you have a fancy liquor store or a Spanish market near you, you may find it in one of those places, too.

If you cannot get pineapple puree, you can make it yourself. Buy canned pineapple or buy a fresh pineapple. Put the meat of the pineapple into a blender or food processor until it is the consistency of baby food. You can either use it right away of freeze some of it until you are ready to start making cocktails. This is the best way because you can ensure it is fresh without having a bunch of added preservatives inside. More importantly, if you make your own pineapple puree, it will be more cost effective, too. Make up a bunch at once and then keep it in the freezer so that it is ready when you are.

Making Cocktails with Pineapple Puree

Plug in the blender, fill the pitcher with ice and get ready to have some fun making cocktails with pineapple puree. You can make margaritas, daiquiris or even pina coladas.

If you add coconut cream, light rum (the clear kind), and pineapple puree to the blender of ice, you can make a pina colada. Most recipes call for pineapple chunks but the puree acts in the same manner with the only difference is that you've already blended it. The garnish is typically whipped cream and a cherry but you can do away with this if you don't want to make anything too "feminine."

The puree makes it easier to make margaritas, too. You can either add it to a blender or keep it on the rocks. All you need is sweet and sour mix (if you can't find it, you can make it with water, sugar and lemon and lime juices), tequila, and the pineapple puree. Frozen is easy because it all gets dumped into the blender.

All of the drinks that you are making with the blender should be mixed until they are the consistency of a slushee, or in the case of the pina colada, a milkshake. You can serve them in fancy glasses, tumblers or even a plastic cup. If it tastes good, people aren't going to care what you serve it in.
